Maldives
The Republic of the Maldives is an archipelago of 26 atolls in the Indian Ocean, made up of almost 1,200 coral islands of which less than 200 are inhabited. Spread out over 90,000 square kilometres of ocean, this is a destination of dazzling tropical beauty. Endowed with a dreamlike beauty, balmy sunny days await its visitors with deep blue skies reflected in the clear lagoons. Wake up to the ruffle of palms and the soothing sound of gentle waves reaching the powdery white soft beaches. It is the ideal destination for newlyweds, with romantic moonlight nights fit for the ultimate honeymoon.
Maldives offers a variety of resorts catering to the taste and budget of most travelers. Each of the inhabited islands will have just one resort, making their beaches idyllically crowd-free and you will find everything you need for a relaxing holiday at your resort. The warm seas have high visibility throughout the year. With water clear enough to see the passing fish as far as fifty meters away at times, this is when you want to invest in an underwater camera. Enjoy your days snorkeling, diving, deep-sea fishing or cruising at sunset. Some resorts offer kite surfing, jet ski rides and other activities.
Although not an African country, Maldives is often combined with an East African safari. The longer travel time for your beach experience is worth it though.
Best time to travel: November - April.
