Seychelles
Made up of 115 islands, some inhabited and some not, Seychelles lies to the east of Kenya and is easily combined with a safari in Tanzania, Kenya or even South Africa. Think seclusion, romance and barefoot days on pale white soft sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters with over 300 species of coral and some 1000 species of fish.
For the active visitor there is a choice of water based activities from big game fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and surfing to kayaking and kite surfing. Besides all that ocean, dense forests await. A special mention for the Vallee de Mai Reserve on the granitic island of Praslin, the country's second most densely populated island. The reserve has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1983. Its palm forest has remained largely unchanged since prehistoric times. The Seychelles is also home to the largest population of giant tortoises and you can get up close and personal with these rare animals on Curieuse Island.
And do come with an appetite. The Creole cuisine is mouthwatering.
Best time to travel: April - October.
